![]() ![]() Their most intimate and vulnerable states are on full display during their short strolls in their little winter escapades and the beautiful imagery on the pages. ![]() I was drawn to their growing friendship and relationship through the illustrations. All of this adds up to a responsible and determined girl who carries the weight of the world on her shoulders. ![]() She also has an elder sister named Julie, and a new niece that she’s constantly looking after. Readers get to know Raina as somewhat the breadwinner of a family-taking care of her two adopted siblings who both have Down Syndrome. Raina herself is almost like a girl who Craig dreamed up, never thinking that he would actually meet her. You know… people that live outside the Midwest say we must be crazy to live in the snow and cold, but I think we gain a lot by enduring these winters. However, this portion of the story was a little bit abrupt, and I would have loved to have learned more about their brotherhood. It served as a great start and also showcased an intriguing bond between the siblings. Thomsons brushstrokes are absolutely gorgeous, and he captures the rush and restless torment of being young and in love with nothing but honesty. The initial storyline of Blankets focuses on the story of Craig’s and his brother’s sibling rivalry but that portion of the graphic novel wound up on the back burner in favor of Thompson’s other experiences. Leksi As a young adult, I found Blankets to be a great read because of my curiosity towards lifes 'big questions' and how other people deal with them. ![]()
